We absolutely love Liz and Zach and you will too!

The Proposal

Zach and I first met the summer of 2008 where we worked at a restaurant together. I was a hostess and he was a bartender and he tricked me into going out with him one night after work… long story and not anywhere near as creepy as it sounds. We are total homebodies and love to cook and have Netflix marathons. We enjoy spending time with our families and are missing Charlottesville as we moved to North Carolina right after we got married. Zach popped the question at “our spot” on Afton mountain where he asked me to be his girlfriend! (Yes, he actually asked me to be his girlfriend.. very 2008 of us..I know) He told me we were going to his parents house for dinner and pulled over and got down on one knee. I was totally surprised and didn’t even know what was going on until well over half way into his proposal. Afterwards he told me our families were waiting for us at my parents house and we proceeded to celebrate with champagne and a nice dinner! It was perfect.

What was your inspiration?

I can’t say I had one clear vision for our wedding day and there certainly wasn’t a “theme.” Whatever vision I had was constantly changing…for example I was dead set on coral. I knew I was going to have a coral wedding with coral bridesmaids and coral everything and by the end.. I don’t think coral showed it’s face once the entire day…maybe on a few guests and that’s it.  This is where I was so thankful to have Cody. I’m probably among the most indecisive people on earth and Cody was able to understand on a more broad level what I wanted and what I liked and I was so happy to just trust her in making a lot of decisions for me.

We love King Family Vineyards, why do you?

We chose King Family for our wedding for several reasons, the main one being the incredible backdrop it could provide for the outdoor ceremony we wanted. Our main hope for our venue was that the “rain plan” was just as beautiful as the nice weather plan so there would be no feelings of disappointment after putting in over a year of thought, time and effort (not to mention money). We didn’t want to have to worry about bad weather and knew after seeing some pictures of indoor ceremonies at King Family, we wouldn’t. Luckily we were blessed with unreal weather for our ceremony. If you just asked Zach why we chose King.. he saw the fire-pit is what sold him!

What was your favorite part of the wedding day?

We answered this question the exact same in saying that the few moments before walking down the aisle was our favorite part of the day. We decided not to have a first look so it was the time leading up to seeing each other for the first time on our wedding day and seeing both of our families and all of our friends in one place and knowing they were all there for us. Eating leftover dinner and cake in our hotel room and reflecting on the day was a close second for me, and Zach says our first dance was second for him.

What did you enjoy most about planning your wedding?

Zach says tastings were the most fun for him.. I can’t disagree. It was all pretty fun for me. I have to say the beginning of the planning process is such a fun time since the world of planning your wedding is brand new and scary and exciting all at once. Meeting with Cody and actually making the decisions real was always a highlight.

Favorite details?

Our officiants were my dads cousin and her husband, and it was really special to have them officiate our wedding because she helped marry my parents over 30 years ago! I think hanging the bistro lights gave the room the feeling I was hoping for and I loved our gold dessert table and the calligraphy dinner menu. The gold chiavari chairs Cody rented for us really pulled the whole look together. The flowers were not to be believed and the bridal party looked beautiful!
