Copper, or as Chemists say Cu, is an essential though often sadly neglected, component of our life.  This malleable metal is often used as a building material due to it’s innate properties as a conductor of heat and electricity—which is perhaps why we overlook it so often (I mean how many of us really bend over to pick up the dropped penny on the street?).  Copper is a naturally occurring metal, found in some of the oldest civilizations on Earth, with traces being used as far back as 10,000 years ago.  During the Bronze Age about 4,000 years ago several cultures smelted copper to make bangles, pottery, artwork, and tools.  However, with it’s beautiful reddish-orange natural color finish (and ability to be flexible in high stressed and high temperature situations), it is no surprise that incorporating flares or inspiration of copper has found it’s way into the wedding scene and décor—or the new age of copper.

One doesn’t need to look far for ideas on using copper in a wedding day.  First off, there are a variety of colors to use that, when combined with copper, create a positively stunning reaction.  Choose from silvers, sparkles, blues, rose gold, pale pinks, or dark greys, or even black.  This earth hue is perfect for a nature inspired wedding!

Furthermore, jewelry ideas for the bride, bridesmaids, or honored guests span from rings (perhaps even your own wedding ring), bangles, earrings, or necklaces leave plenty of room for imagination.  Add a bit of flare to these pieces by incorporating opal or off white jewels or really make them pop with a beautiful turquoise.  Additionally, copper adds a great contrast of texture to many critical elements in your wedding day.  Contrast the soft and elegant look of your flower bouquet by wrapping it in a copper inspired band.

And we can’t forget the décor or table decorations!  From candlesticks to ribbons to vases, copper is an undeniable elegant and timeless centerpiece.  The complements of a natural beautiful element such as copper pairs greatly with romantic details you include in your wedding such as lace and candles.  If you want a bolder statement, opt for copper toned chairs against a pale tablecloth for a stunning effect.  Depending on your budget, you can incorporate stand out pieces of copper, such as a chandelier to really create awe and timeless beauty.

This reminds me of when I was young– my grandfather had Alzheimer’s, but, no matter what else he forgot, he could sing songs from the good old days. One of his favorites was “Pennies from Heaven.” Decor involving copper pennies might be a fun way to include him!

I love the idea of incorporating copper elements into jewelry for the bride and bridesmaids!

I love the look of the antique copper lanterns. That could look gorgeous, maybe with some copper flatware? And rose gold jewelry for the bride to mimic the same hue!
